DSE A-BODY SPEED KITS

The Detroit Speed A-Body front suspension kit is a bolt-on package that addresses the shortcomings of the stock A-Body suspension. It includes tubular upper and lower control arms and one-piece forged 4140 alloy steel spindles. Steering geometry is improved by our unique spindle design. It is not compromised by using an off the shelf spindle from another application. This package provides additional positive caster and an optimized camber curve at a lower ride height. The spindles are taller than the stock spindles and provide 2” of drop from stock height. The stock steer arms mount in the optimal location to minimize bump steer. The spindle allows the use of OEM disc brakes or aftermarket brakes designed to fit the stock spindle. The tubular lower control arms will accommodate a conventional coil spring or our coilover conversion kit.

DSE A-Body Forged Spindle
The Detroit Speed spindle is 1-1/2” taller than the stock spindle and provides 2” of drop from stock height. The taller spindle height improves handling by modifying the camber curve resulting in a negative camber gain during suspension compression. The stock steer arms mount in the optimal location to minimize bump steer.

Our spindle is a one-piece 4140 alloy steel forging that is made in the U.S.A. It is heat treated to maximize impact toughness and fatigue strength, and then a secondary induction hardening process is performed on the spindle pin to further increase its strength and abrasion resistance. This 2 step heat treating process is what gives DSE's forged spindle the unique coloration.  Afterwards, the bearing and seal surfaces are precision hard turned to ensure that the concentricity and diameter of the pin remain within exacting tolerances.

The spindle allows the use of OEM disc brakes or aftermarket brakes designed to fit a stock spindle. The OEM caliper bracket will need to be notched slightly to fit the DSE spindle. DSE offers a Baer bake kit that is designed to fit the spindle.

The spindle comes with a spindle nut, tabbed washer, cotter pin, and fasteners to attach the stock steer arms and lower caliper mounting bracket.   Find out more here



DSE A-Body
Upper Control Arms
DSE’s A-Body tubular upper control arms provide increased strength and additional positive caster. They feature
five axis laser cut tube ends and ball joint pockets for a precise fit. The upper control arms are TIG welded in fixtures to guarantee geometric accuracy and repeatability. They have Delrin bushings, new ball joints, and a gloss black powdercoat finish.

The DSE upper control arms have CNC stainless steel cross shafts which incorporate DSE’s “Caster Tuner Bushings”. These aluminum bushings adjust caster by moving the upper control arm fore/aft for more or less caster without adding alignment shims. Two sets of “Caster Tuner Bushings” are included in the kit along with a set of polyurethane rebound bumpers.

DSE A-Body Lower Control Arms
The DSE A-Body lower control arms feature a robust tubular design with gussets and a cross brace. They feature five axis laser cut tube ends and ball joint pockets for a precise fit. The lower control arms are TIG welded in fixtures to guarantee geometric accuracy and repeatability. They have Delrin bushings with steel housings and crush tubes, new ball joints, and a gloss black powdercoat finish.

The tubular lower control arms will accommodate a conventional coil spring or DSE’s coilover conversion kit and use the stock style sway bar mount. The coilover kit is a direct bolt on with no fabrication.

DSE A-Body Splined Sway Bar Kit
The DSE A-Body splined sway bar kit is tuned to provide the ultimate in performance, ride, and handling for your A-Body. It uses a 1-1/2” OD hollow 4130 alloy heat-treated splined sway bar that mounts in black hardcoated 6061-T6 billet aluminum pillow blocks with Delrin bushings. The sway bar arms are ¾” thick solid steel to minimize deflection and come in a black powdercoat finish. The kit includes a low-friction ball style end-link system.

The bar and arms are specifically designed for the A-Body chassis for performance, fitment, and clearance. This sway bar kit is a direct bolt-on for 1968-72 A-Bodies; on 1964-66 A-Bodies the existing sway bar mounting holes need to be drilled and tapped up to 3/8”.
