Detroit Speed Takes the Top Three Spots at Run to the Ole South

| Mooresville, NC – With temperatures soaring into the mid 90’s this past weekend in Kershaw, SC and with track temps heating up the Detroit Speed crew of Kyle Tucker, Stacy Tucker, Ryan Mathews and Matt Butts did as well by taking the top three spots in the Road Course and Autocross at the 1st Annual Run to the Ole South. The crew arrived in Kershaw early Friday morning and quickly unloaded the DSE 1969 and 1970 Camaro Test Cars and the 1962 Chevy II and 1966 Mustang Test Cars. After a bit of tuning the Test Cars were ready to hit the track for some quality track time testing in advance of the competition to follow the next day. With overcast skies and cooler temperatures the track was in prime condition for the Test Cars and BFGoodrich tires. Following an afternoon full of testing the crew took some much needed R&R with the rest of the competitors on the .7 mile go-kart track. This is a great way for all of the competitors to have some fun and meet new people the day before the events start. After go-karting was completed, everybody made their way to Albert Melchoir of Carbon Customs trailer for some pork chops and prime rib that he had been cooking all day. As the evening progressed people slowly made their way back to their tents, campers or trailers to get a good night’s rest in preparation for the competition that was to take place early Saturday morning. The pits came alive early Saturday morning before the sun rose with the sounds of turning wrenches and roaring engines filling the warm South Carolina air in preparation for the start of events that lay just hours away. After a short driver’s meeting, the more than 40 cars entered into the event split into two groups, one to start on the road course while the other started their day on the autocross. The huge track at Carolina Motorsports Park was split into two sections. The first section being a shortened road course while the other being a stretched out autocross that really tested the driver’s abilities as well as their vehicle’s ability to handle the extreme conditions that were put forth by rising air and track temperatures. With some fantastic morning runs Kyle Tucker was sitting in 1st place on the road course while Ryan Mathews had a tight hold on the autocross top spot in the new DSE 1966 Test Car. Following a short break for lunch the groups went back out to try and improve their times in hopes of a top three finish in the road course or autocross. Improving upon times turned out to be quite difficult in the afternoon as air temps crept up over 90 causing track temps to soar. After all was said and done it was Kyle, Stacy, and Ryan of Detroit Speed who captured the top three spots in both events. Matt, competing in his first ever driving event, put up some very respectable times in the Chevy II. The American Street Car Series events are a great way for Detroit Speed to fine tune our cars while competing against some of the top competition in the country. We would like to thank everybody involved who put on another fantastic event. Detroit Speed were also honored to see the amount of cars competing wearing the Detroit Speed “Equipped” decal on their fender. We would also like to thank the staff and crew of CMP for their professionalism and their kindness. Up next is Nashville for the Goodguys show the weekend of the 18th-20th. Event Results:
