Racing for Warriors Autocross - VIR 2018

06/15/2018

Mooresville, NC - Racing for Warriors is a recently established event put on by Cheryl Herrick of Ponytail Racing that we were very happy to be a part of. The inaugural event took place on the skid pad at the gorgeous Virginia International Raceway (or VIR for short). The goal of Racing for Warriors is to give back to the wounded warriors who have served this country. Ponytail Racing has partnered with Operation North State who gives these US Veterans an opportunity to go on various trips and participate in activities such as fishing and now, motorsports!

The event founder Cheryl Herrick is a long time member of the Detroit Speed, Inc. family and she had this to say about the event...

"The intention behind the Racing for Warriors event was to show appreciation to Military Veterans who have given so much to our Country and have been adversely affected by their sacrifice. Our hope was to create a day of joy and fun for them and based on the smiling faces, and cheering and yelling from inside the car as well as in the Pavilion...mission accomplished. Spending the day with our Veterans had a multiplier effect.... hearing their stories first hand and yet experiencing how gracious they all are as people, touched our hearts. The response of every volunteer (whether driver or otherwise) was to double down and say, Yes I'll do it again! And we will! A Special thanks to Operation North State and the Sparkjoy Foundation as well as our other sponsors/donors. They are great organizations to partner with on this worthy mission."
