The Goodguys Rod & Custom Association Nashville Nationals always promise a good time, and never fail to provide! With Goodguys now allowing vehicles up to model year 1987, you can see the shift in the next generation of hot rodding taking place. Lined up alongside your 1960's and 70's muscle at the autocross paddock you'll now be enamored with Third Gen Camaros/Firebirds, G-Body Monte Carlos, and the occasional Fox Body Mustang. The "later" model muscle cars are becoming more and more popular and we love it!
As far as weather went for the weekend, one word comes to mind...hot. However, that didn't deter any show goers or racers from coming out and enjoying the cool cars and trucks. With the show only being a two day event this year, Friday and Saturday afternoon served as qualifying for the Music City Mayhem Shootout at 6:30pm Saturday. Nashville served as another test session to iron out the freshly built 1987 DSE-Z Camaro and to continue campaigning the 1972 Corvette sporting it's new production SpeedRay™ front suspension, that you can find here, and the DECAlink™ rear suspension, that can also be found here.
Competition proved to be tough this year, but as Kyle Tucker dialed in the DSE-Z and Ryan Mathews continued to gain comfort in the Corvette, the time differences began to shrink. By the end of the weekend, it was Ryan placing 2nd in the Pro-Class with a fast time of 37.396 seconds which was just .02 seconds behind Team Speedway's Robby Unser and their freshly built Camaro. Kyle Tucker wrapped up the Top Three in Pro-Class in the DSE-Z with a final time of 38.256 seconds, a very respectable time as we continue to learn how to get the most out of our line of Third Generation Camaro/Firebird products. As far as the Street Machine Class goes, Brian Finch took home the win with a 37.823 second time in Mark Turner's Detroit Speed "Equipped" 1970 Nova. Mark's Nova was built by Brian back in 2011 and is abused on the race course nearly every weekend! This just goes to show that we pride ourselves on supplying you with products that are built to last a lifetime.
Another great part of each Goodguys show this year is the All-New Detroit Speed Mighty Muscle section. This section is reserved for a select few show goers to show off their classic American Muscle iron. We were definitely not disappointed in Nashville as we noticed a great mix of Fords, Chevys, and even some Mopar power.
We also had the BFGoodrich Tires BFG Garage on hand to assist anyone that was in need. We experienced various situations from tire pressure adjustments and suspension tuning to provide maximum performance on the course. Among the customers we encountered was Ben Uminn with his Detroit Speed "Equipped" 1967 Camaro. Ben was in need of some more grip on the course so he went to the Detroit Speed hauler to purchase a rear sway bar to go along with his QUADRALink™ kit. Once he had the bar, the BFG Garage got to work assisting Ben with the install to help him better his overall time for the weekend. You can see the video of Ben's car being driven by Kyle Tucker below to help guide Ben in the right direction as far as suspension tuning goes.
To put the icing on the cake this weekend with successful runs in the Autocross, the DSE-Z bought home a plaque for "Best Third Gen Pick" while our 1984 Monte Carlo earned "Best G-Body Pick" which are two new awards this year to celebrate the year change to 1987. Things are changing around the Goodguys Rod & Custom shows, and we are excited to see what the rest of the year has in store!
