The SEMA Show in Las Vegas, Nevada attracts everyone within the automotive industry once a year to show off new products, new builds, and catch up with old friends while making new ones. This show is something that every car lover must see in their lifetime. The best of the best attend this show, and it is your chance to get up close and personal with some amazing vehicles. This is also your chance to see what’s new. For Detroit Speed, Inc. it was time to discuss our new C2/C3 suspension systems, the SpeedRay™ and DECAlink™.
While we had our C2/C3 displays on hand in our booth, one of the hot topics was our line of 1982-92
F-Body products since we had the DSE-Z displayed in the Optima Batteries booth. Our new 1987 Camaro had been seen at LS Fest in early September, but SEMA gave our west coast fans the opportunity to see the build in all its glory. The car was a huge hit, and this sparked conversation regarding the entire setup of the car. Also on display from Detroit Speed was Bob Gawlik’s 1967 Chevy II, a purpose built, race-ready street car. Our friends in the HRIA booth were gracious enough to choose this car to display in their booth.
Along with the cars that we brought out, there were plenty of other builders that utilized Detroit Speed products on their rides. After the SEMA Show wraps up, the DSE crew packs up and rolls on over to Las Vegas Motor Speedway to setup for the 10th anniversary of the Optima Ultimate Street Car Invitational. OUSCI brings some of the fastest street cars to the track to see who truly has the ultimate street car. Along with the top dogs that were invited out to Vegas, the Optima team searches SEMA to pick cars that they believe should hit the track as well, and that’s where the Golden Ticket comes in. In attendance at LVMS was Kyle Tucker and the DSE-Z. Kyle ran the Z all day Saturday during the autocross before he flew out to Mexico to pre-run the 50th Baja 1000. While Kyle was away, Bryan Johnson stepped up in a big way to represent Detroit Speed in his 2013 Camaro in the GT class. Optima changed the format this year by awarding not only the ultimate street car, but also the top vehicles in each class. Bryan became the first winner of the GT class cup! We would also like to congratulate Ken Thwaits for his victory and new title of Ultimate Street Car in his Mitsubishi EVO.
